About the Author

JK Crum I was born in Columbus Ohio in October of 1966 and nearly 60 years old. Played professionally now for over 20 year, but this all begins in a small town of Buckeye Lake in Ohio at the age of 25, and I play a variety of instruments along the way including guitar, banjo, mandolin, piano, trumpet, percussion and a vocalist for the group.  I am a royalty colleting published Singer Songwriter and Reverbnation Recording Artist. My music can be found on a variety of digital music outlets like Spotify and Apple Music

As an accomplished musician and member of the American Federation of Musicians I’ve played a variety of events and private parties. I am a US Navy Veteran, a publisher, producer, and event manager among the many responsibilities. I am the President and Owner of Jk Crum Entertainment LLC. I operate a small entertainment company of 9 part time employees. We serve mainly the Greater Tampa Bay Area.

Here’s my Incredible Story

After serving in the Navy “John Kevin Crum” age 23, got his job working for a contractor in Largo Florida and worked for nearly 30 years achieving a level of success I had only dreamed of on the farm in Ohio. Known then by the name John Crum my employer provided me an education and opportunities including vocational schools, leadership development and business management courses which I took advantage of. I honed my skills as a professional repair technician and for the last 10 years of my career as a business leader. I decided to retire in 2016 when my wife passed away. I served as her caregiver for 3 years and upon her death she told me to “go and do what you love” I had played for many years in bands on the weekend and this was the defining moment. The one life changed forever and another as if an offshoot of a parallel reality spang.

Reinventing my entire life

Known to my family and closest friends for my entire life everyone called me Kevin. It is my middle name and the one momma called me. My personal life became a simple one serving veterans and seniors. I founded Jk Crum Entertainment LLC and registered my business as a Florida Corporation in December of 2017. I played for all kinds of venues and clients using booking websites like Gigsalad and started blogging about my gigs and experiences in 2019.

Everyday is a Gift

Fast forward to the present, I can confidently assert that it is nothing short of a miracle that I am alive. In July 2023, I faced a near-fatal situation and was rescued by the skilled surgeons at the Bay Pines VA Medical Center. I endured several weeks in the hospital, undergoing multiple surgical procedures in an attempt to manage spontaneous bleeding in my upper gastrointestinal tract. Over the following months, I received more than 15 units of blood. I had experienced a severe heart attack but was not in a condition to endure the surgical intervention required to address my cardiac issues.

Fight for survival

In September 2023, I succumbed to a massive heart attack, only to be revived twice in the ambulance and once more successfully in the emergency room at Northside Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida. While still contending with spontaneous arterial-venous malformations (AVMs), the best course of action was to continuously administer blood and manage the bleeding episodes, which occurred every few days—some severe and others minor. This circumstance prevented the surgeon from prescribing blood thinners and hindered the necessity for an open-heart surgery. My continued survival was not anticipated. The bleeding subsided one evening, allowing my hemoglobin level to reach a minimal threshold, indicating that I could be “topped off with blood” and prepped for open heart surgery on that Monday morning by my capable and trusted surgeon.

Roll of the Dice

We all knew I was a risk, and it was just a coin flip but better than a slow death in a hospital bed. I had surgery and the damage considered quite bad. I received a bio synthetic aortic valve, and the mitral valve was repaired with a special but highly successful procedure. My leg had a real good artery they scavenged for my triple bypass. Soon after being placed in ICU, I was bleeding and this time in my chest. Something had gone wrong, and I was down once more. They resuscitated me and rushed me down to surgery again where i had to be reopened and my chest again separated; they worked for several hours while I stayed on life support. my surgeon and his team, tirelessly operated and won’t give up on me. My age and my overall healthy condition made them optimistic that I would survive once we got the bleeding stopped.

Do angels exist? Yes, they do!

Later that night, I triumphantly emerged from my second surgery, having received another 10 units of blood that were essential for my surgery and another 7 for my recovery. Surrounded by the love and support of my friends and family, I felt a divine presence as I opened my eyes; despite my limited vision, the nurse appeared like a radiant angel. For a brief moment, I believed I had stepped into heaven. When I reflect on angels, I am filled with gratitude for the incredible nurses in the ICU. It’s truly remarkable!

I was proudly sent home on my birthday the following month as a gift from my surgeon and ICU staff, with the understanding that I would open the door for the nurse each morning. With home health care by my side for months, I regained my strength and successfully returned to work, embracing the life I truly love.

A Pirates Life for Me

I was incredibly fortunate to find love amidst the rough edges of that rugged path. My heart truly flourished on this extraordinary journey, thanks to my radiant new bride Janna and the unwavering support of my cherished friends and family. We exchanged vows in the enchanting autumn of 2019 aboard a pirate ship! Honor Flight West Central Florida (HFWCF) is a Tampa, FL based non-profit organization. Our goal is to transport America’s Veterans to Washington, D.C. at NO COST, to visit the memorials dedicated to honor their service and sacrifices. Priority is currently given to WWII and Korean Veterans, along with those other Veterans who may be terminally ill. Departure for this one-day trip to Washington, D.C. is from the St. Petersburg – Clearwater International Airport (PIE).

Take-a-Vet Fishing

Take a Vet Fishing is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing veterans with guided fishing outings as a way to give back to military service members. They aim to help veterans heal and recover from PTSD by offering a relaxing day of fishing, where everything is provided, including equipment, food, and transportation.
